Congratulations! Golfito. This is the name of the
MAYGA logo as chosen by the directors. Congratulations
to Jeran Lefebvre for coming up with the winning
name. Jeran has won one dozen new golf balls. We
had some really neat and original names. Thank you
to all of you who submitted names. The directors
have told this was a very difficult choice. Start
watching for Golfito. We will try and use Golfito
as much as possible in all our activities. We want
this logo to be quickly recognized in the community
as a symbol of quality junior golf program where
kids come to learn about golf, responsibility, and
most of all have fun. Jeran tells me the world Golfito
means golf in Costa Rica. In Mattawa GOLFITO means
FUN!
Da’ Course
After speaking with Mike (the grass guy in Mattawa)
he tells me the greens are being cut at a length
of 5/32 of an inch. That’s short! The type
of grass is called bent grass. Greens are like glass,
very tough and durable but are damaged easily if
not cared for properly. Don’t drag your feet
and always fix your ball mark plus one more!

break of the green from behind your ball.
“A buck-Fifty” – Slang

Rule of the Month
The following rule can be found in your rule book
(ask Glenn if you would like a copy).
When your balls lands in a sand trap there is one
special rule you need to know. Your club cannot
touch the sand until you hit your shot. This means
as you are taking your stance your club cannot rest
on the ground.
Did you know?
There are more sesame seeds on a Big Mac than
there are dimples on a Golf Ball.
The word “link”, when used to describe
a golf course comes for the Gaelic word “lincas”
which means rolling or hilly ground.
Just a reminder!
The point system for participation will again be
in place for the 2002 season. Each week points will
be awarded for participation in the weekly program.
There will be times during the year when you earn
extra points – we will let you know in advance.
The weekly trivia will also happen again this year.
Trivia answers can lead to 50 extra points. Good
luck!
Important Stuff
As the temperatures get warmer ( summer really
is coming) there are a few very important things
to remember to bring each week to the junior program.
Dress accordingly!
If it’s cool, wear a jacket or a sweater.
If it looks like rain, bring a jacket/umbrella.
Each week please bring the following:
Hat, Sunscreen, Water bottle (simply
put a small amount of water in an empty plastic
bottle and put it in the freezer overnight. Fill
the rest with water in the morning and you have
a cold bottle of water for the entire day.)
Junior Spotlight – Jeran Lefebvre
Jeran is on of our most active junior members.
He recently won the name the logo contest and is
regularly stumping Glenn with his impossible trivia
questions (maybe Glenn should make his trivia questions
easier and Jeran will take it easier on him). Jeran’s
participation and energy are outstanding. He always
has a smile on his face and is one of the most polite
and courteous juniors in the program. Jeran is a
sports nut! He curls, skis, plays basketball, baseball,
volleyball and participates in track and field.
He is also a member of the Mattawa Golf and Ski
Resort. Keep up the good work Jeran!
